Never take a moment for granted

Holy!

It’s true though. We all think, “just one peek,” and we look to see what the email was or who texted us.

We all think, ‘sending one little letter won’t hurt anybody,’ and we send that ‘k’ or ‘?’.

We all think, “damn! I hope that’s *** calling,” then we pick the phone up in our hands and carry on an animated conversation with whoever.

We all reach to change the song on the radio or mp3 Player/iPod.

We all reach over to adjust the GPS volume or input the address

Where I live, any of the above, and more, is illegal and could net you a minimum $490 dollar fine for first offense distracted driving plus 3 demerit points (if you settle out of court. $1000 if you go to court) and go as high as 10 years in federal penitentiary for causing bodily harm or 14 years for actually killing someone with your vehicle.

It’s not worth it people, it’s really not. My life, your life, everybody’s life is worth shutting your phone off, putting it in Airplane mode, turning off the ringer, not fiddling with the radio knob and a million other things we do while we’re driving that we shouldn’t.

It certainly wasn’t worth that 11 year old girl’s life!

Please, think twice about talking/texting/whatever and driving!

This isn’t a new chapter, I apologize. It’s more of a heads up and reminder.  I may be missing for awhile. Though I hope I still have the desire to keep writing and am able to come…

WANT FOLLOWERS? | Eric Schlehlein, Author/Freelance writer

I have blogged before about how to gain followers. Here is another blogger, who doesn’t enjoy what he’s doing but does it anyway, who has of the same thoughts.

He’s also expanded on what I’ve thought but may not have said: interact with the community. Let even those who like a post without commenting or following, know that you have seen them, let them know that you appreciate the fact they lead a busy life and still took the time to click a little button.

Read others blogs and like and comment on them; they will appreciate it just as much as you do.

When you leave a like or comment the blogger gets a notification that your online persona did so: It’s like a business card. When you’re at a function for your work, you carry business cards so those you interact with have a way to get in touch with you after the fact.

That’s what this is about: interacting with those who have some of the same interests and giving them a way to get in touch with you. While visiting their site counts in their statistics, actually leaving your footprint in some way lets them know WHO was there instead of just a nameless click.

WordPress Meet and Greet – All Bloggers Welcome | HarsH ReaLiTy

It seems these online ‘Meet and Greets’ happen a lot more frequently than I thought.

These meets are a small part of why I keep this, and other, sites running: to help others find a way to connect with those who may have something in common with them.

So, if you wish to do a little self-promotion or find others who share an interest feel free to leave a link (my spam filter catches anything with two or more links) or go to HarsH ReaLiTy or any of the others who do this and click away :).

Blogging – Be Responsive | HarsH ReaLiTy

I’ve done articles before on how to promote your blog and this is one of the best ways to do so.

Comment on others posts. It puts your name or brand out there. I know when I see a new commenter or that someone new has started following me I get curious: I want to see who they are and what they have to offer me as a person. I click their name or site and visit them.

Commenting on all those posts that end up in your inbox every day can get time-consuming BUT if you pick and choose and give yourself a time limit so you don’t get sucked in too deep it can bring you more clicks, visits and maybe more comments yourself :).

Press This vs Reblog

Someone mentioned in a post the other day that self hosted WordPress blogs don’t have the reblog button so I thought I would give you an alternative which works on ALL sites.

I present to you the Press This button!

I just learned that WordPress has been changing things again sigh.

Any way, click Settings on your dashboard: It’s near the bottom.

This will bring up another screen in another tab or widow which looks like: Screenshot 2015-07-01 06.57.18

Click the Writing tab on the above screen which should look something like below.

Press This

Press This is a bookmarklet: a little app that runs in your browser and lets you grab bits of the web.

Use Press This to clip text, images and videos from any web page. Then edit and add more straight from Press This before you save or publish it in a post on your site.

Drag-and-drop the following link to your bookmarks bar or right click it and add it to your favorites for a posting shortcut.

Press This

Press this is at the bottom of the tab and looks like a button. Click on it and drag it up to your bookmarks bar as stated above.

When you click Press This when on a site it will bring up a box which is much bigger than the Reblog box.

Why is it bigger? You have more options. You can write your thoughts on the page as you do with Reblog BUT you can add your tags and categories as you do with a regular post. This works whether it’s a WordPress site, a self hosted site or somewhere else altogether.

The only issue I have with the Press This button is that I can’t schedule when a post goes out; I can only save it as a draft or publish it immediately. I’m a big believer in scheduling my posts because I can make my posts when I have the time and schedule them for when I want them to go out thus not inundating your inboxes with many posts in a day and then having a draught where none go out for weeks.

I don’t Reblog while mobile since it’s from my phone and the buttons are too small to be useful but there is nothing wrong with Reblogging, I just prefer Press This because of the increased options I have there.

Oh, and WordPress? I do NOT like the new posting page or the new settings page! Please, give us the option of the old version of Settings and Posting/Pages! They don’t have as many options as I want and actually use!

You may have a fresh start at any moment you choose

You may have a fresh start at any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not falling down, but staying down. | Don Charisma.

I love some of Don Charisma’s posts! They may be ‘just’ a quote but they speak volumes to me

I couldn’t wait for success

I couldn’t wait for success, so I went ahead without it. | Don Charisma.

You’ve gotta love Jonathon Winters!

My love of Mr. Winters aside this quote is so true!

I would imagine that waiting for success is akin to waiting for a watched pot to boil.  In other words it’ll happen but the wait will seem to take forever because you aren’t occupying yourself with doing things to make that success happen sooner.

Of course, it might not happen if you don’t plug in the kettle or turn on the burner just like success won’t happen if you don’t do something in order to make it happen in the first place.
