Blogger Recognition Award

How cool is this? I was nominated for my first Blogger award!

Takes a bow and blows kisses to ajoobacats, with many thanks. Hugs my friend.

This was a really great way to start my day! I logged in and her post was there about her receiving the award. Well, didn’t I get a surprise when I clicked and got the WP notification of a comment on my blog. It was ajoobacats notifying me that she had nominated me!

This award was started by Edge Of Night as a way of recognizing other bloggers whom the award nominator felt made the blogosphere a little better in some way.

The rules are:

Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.

  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post.
    • Make sure to also attach the award itself!
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing! (It happens LOL).

How did my blog get started? I wanted some place to post my Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood stories where the ‘witch hunters’ (fanfiction dot net’s version of the Gestapo) couldn’t say boo about the content and where I would have more control over how and when posts happened. I also wanted an easier way to interact with my followers and commenters.

It grew from a site where I posted my stories to what it is now. I still have my stories here but I also have recipes, book reviews and product reviews. It’s my ‘safe’ place to vent and rant and have my happy feelings and let everyone know about it :D.

My piece of advice for other bloggers: It’s sometimes hard to come up with an idea or theme for a post. I had a hard time with that for the longest while. I solved it quite easily actually with blog challenges.

The two that finally got me started with regular blogging are Cee’s Share Your World Weekly Challenge and the Ultimate Blog Challenge, there’s a new UBC challenge starting October 1. They gave me a reason and some focus instead of wracking my brain trying to figure out what to say.

My nominees are, in no particular order:
Kelpie’s Korner who brings some fun, sexiness and hotness to my life each week.
It Started In Oxford.  She is some of the inspiration for the posts I make here and at This ‘n That.
passajer  Her artwork is thought provoking, to say the least.
Green Mind, Veg Heart Makes me think about what I’m putting in my body and taking away from the earth.
Aging Gracefully My Ass Makes me laugh.
4padfoot (warning, her site might be a little slow to load, especially if you haven’t cleared your cookies. It is gif heavy.) Truly an awesome site. I’ve seen the work she’s done elsewhere and it is awe inspiring.
Awkward Heather Another site which inspires some of the posts here.
One Lazy Robot Makes me laugh.
Coffee ‘n Notes Is thought provoking, funny at times, series at times and simply makes me think.
Sara C. Roethle One of my favorite authors but she doesn’t post just about her books 🙂
Be Like Water Interesting ideas. Media. I just enjoy their site.
Cooking With A Wallflower I love some of her recipes and how she tells us about her life.
California Kat One of my all time favorite fanfiction authors.
The Book Review Directory Just one of the places I visit to read other people’s review of books I think I might like.
MediBites A soon to be doctor and fanfiction author who posts more than just stories.
The comments after each blog site are not necessary but I thought I would give you a little insight into why I follow them.

Ten things that made me happy this week! | It Started in Oxford

Ten things that made me happy this week! | It Started in Oxford.

While I was thinking of my happy things and typing them up I thought of a challenge. There is no banner nor prize from me; there is only the good things you think of and the warm fuzzies you get from taking a couple of minutes out of a busy day, a day which might not be quite as happy as you would like it to be.

The challenge? Reblog or Press this post, or the one from It Started In Oxford and give us a short list, only five things, of things which made each of you happy this week.

It could be a kitten’s purr or a friend calling just to say hi or something someone said which made you think. It doesn’t really matter WHAT it was that made you happy, it only matters that it made you happy for that moment in time.

So, who’s going to take me up on this challenge and give us a list of things which made you happy this week? I know I’m looking forward to reading them :).

I promise, it WILL take your mind off what’s depressing in the news these days for a few minutes :).

My happy things.

  1. I actually, for the first time in several years, took, some vacation days! I didn’t really do anything but the most important things is that I was NOT at work!

  2.  Helping my son fill out an online job application.

  3. Discovering Bead Weaving! I’m not happy with the loom but that is easily solved, I hope, by visiting a different craft store or ordering online or maybe asking my brother to put something together for me.

  4.  New Restaurants! Northern Tai is wonderful!

  5.  Craft stores. Even when they don’t have the venting or air conditioning on I can still get lost in them for hours, even if I don’t buy anything.

  6.  Old television series! I started rewatching, again, Andromeda.

  7. Kevin Sorbo. ‘Nuff said.

  8.  Buckwheat Cereal. Yeah, I know, how can cereal make you happy. I don’t know, but it does, especially since my local grocery stores don’t seem to carry it any more 😦 so I have to go to a health food store to get it.

  9.  Sunshine, chirping birds and coffee.

  10. These 10 things that make me happy posts :).

The world is filled with so much negativity, especially if you watch or listen to the news, that having to stop and list some things that make you happy also makes you think. You think about something positive, something which might not make the news, even if it is just for the few minutes it takes you to type something like this up.
