Blogger Recognition Award

How cool is this? I was nominated for my first Blogger award!

Takes a bow and blows kisses to ajoobacats, with many thanks. Hugs my friend.

This was a really great way to start my day! I logged in and her post was there about her receiving the award. Well, didn’t I get a surprise when I clicked and got the WP notification of a comment on my blog. It was ajoobacats notifying me that she had nominated me!

This award was started by Edge Of Night as a way of recognizing other bloggers whom the award nominator felt made the blogosphere a little better in some way.

The rules are:

Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.

  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post.
    • Make sure to also attach the award itself!
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing! (It happens LOL).

How did my blog get started? I wanted some place to post my Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood stories where the ‘witch hunters’ (fanfiction dot net’s version of the Gestapo) couldn’t say boo about the content and where I would have more control over how and when posts happened. I also wanted an easier way to interact with my followers and commenters.

It grew from a site where I posted my stories to what it is now. I still have my stories here but I also have recipes, book reviews and product reviews. It’s my ‘safe’ place to vent and rant and have my happy feelings and let everyone know about it :D.

My piece of advice for other bloggers: It’s sometimes hard to come up with an idea or theme for a post. I had a hard time with that for the longest while. I solved it quite easily actually with blog challenges.

The two that finally got me started with regular blogging are Cee’s Share Your World Weekly Challenge and the Ultimate Blog Challenge, there’s a new UBC challenge starting October 1. They gave me a reason and some focus instead of wracking my brain trying to figure out what to say.

My nominees are, in no particular order:
Kelpie’s Korner who brings some fun, sexiness and hotness to my life each week.
It Started In Oxford.  She is some of the inspiration for the posts I make here and at This ‘n That.
passajer  Her artwork is thought provoking, to say the least.
Green Mind, Veg Heart Makes me think about what I’m putting in my body and taking away from the earth.
Aging Gracefully My Ass Makes me laugh.
4padfoot (warning, her site might be a little slow to load, especially if you haven’t cleared your cookies. It is gif heavy.) Truly an awesome site. I’ve seen the work she’s done elsewhere and it is awe inspiring.
Awkward Heather Another site which inspires some of the posts here.
One Lazy Robot Makes me laugh.
Coffee ‘n Notes Is thought provoking, funny at times, series at times and simply makes me think.
Sara C. Roethle One of my favorite authors but she doesn’t post just about her books 🙂
Be Like Water Interesting ideas. Media. I just enjoy their site.
Cooking With A Wallflower I love some of her recipes and how she tells us about her life.
California Kat One of my all time favorite fanfiction authors.
The Book Review Directory Just one of the places I visit to read other people’s review of books I think I might like.
MediBites A soon to be doctor and fanfiction author who posts more than just stories.
The comments after each blog site are not necessary but I thought I would give you a little insight into why I follow them.

The Reading Habits Tag | Coffee n’ Notes

The Reading Habits Tag | Coffee n’ Notes.

I included the link so you can see the gifs and the link to her nominator.

The Rules:

The rules are simple, answer a bunch of questions about your reading habits and then nominate a bunch of people to do the same. Don’t forget to tag the person who nominated you!

OK! And now for the questions:

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

First I want to say that it’s funny this should hit my inbox today since a follower and I have been discussing TBR lists today lol.

Now, how do I decide what to read next? If it’s a new book by an author I absolutely love that gets put at the top of the list.

If there aren’t any new books out I’ll go online and reread the book blurbs to see which one pricks my interest since I generally use my Kobo for reading and book descriptions isn’t part of their package.

You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or commit?

I’ll put it down and go on to something else (ahem fanfiction ahem) and come back to it at a later day. I actually have one in this category that I just can’t get into. It’s Pandora’s Story by Anne Rice. I love the Lestat/Mayfair Witches series but that one book I just can’t get into.

The end of the year is coming and you’re so close yet so far away on your Goodreads challenge. Do you quit or commit?

I have a Goodreads Challenge?  Good to know.

The covers of a series you love DO. NOT. MATCH. How do you cope?

<<<— Ebook reader. They don’t generally have good artwork any way since unless it’s a tablet it’s in black and white so I pay absolutely no attention.

Everyone and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

When I can find somebody to actually discuss a book with it’s usually an online group of us. I find that when I discuss a book/series with a bunch of different people I get different perspectives so I’m able to see the book and characters more clearly

I COULD discuss with my boyfriend but he reads the same books over and over and over ad infinitim, rarely anything new unless it’s by an established author he already knows he loves.

You’re reading a book and you’re about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

This has happened a few times actually, lol. I let the tears come but cry quietly for a minute or two then buck myself up and keep on going.

A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a summary on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?

Easy! If it’s been a year or more since I read the last one (Jean M. Auel was famous for YEARS between her Earth’s Children books) I’ll go back and reread the series up to that point just to refresh my memory.

You don’t want ANYONE borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people “nope” when they ask?

This is why I LOVE ebooks! I buy them and they are not transferable! Nobody else can borrow them unless they take the reader, lol, and since that never leaves my purse/sight well, they don’t get the books :D.

You’ve picked up and put down five different books in the past month. How do you get over the reading slump?

I mostly read for fun, but sometimes there are many books coming out and I know I would love, but I am not in the right mood to read. What gets me out of that “reading slump” is going back to that one book that I loooved so much and who changed something in me. I re-read it slowly and enjoy it again, this opens the door for more books to be read. This is pretty much how I deal with it too. I generally go back to one of a very limited number of books. Karen, I Heard the Owl Call My Name or Dark Lover are my go tos when I hit a slump since they are at the top of my all time favorites list

There are so many new books coming out that you are dying to read! How many do you actually buy?.

Actually this depends. There are certain authors or series who are permanently at the top of my order list so they would be ordered first. If one of them doesn’t have a new one out then I’ll go with the book(s) which sound like what I’m in the mood for at that time.

After you’ve bought a new book you want to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf until you actually read them?

Since my eReader is my constant companion I usually get to it as soon as it’s downloaded to my device. Pre-order it’s there as soon as I get up in the morning. If I just bought it while browsing it might sit there for a few days.

Alright, Now For The Nominees:

If you read this and you love to read, consider yourself tagged 😀

I really enjoyed doing this tag and I hope you’ll have with it as well, thank you so much for reading ❤  Count these two lines as from me too.
