The Shadows

by

J. R. Ward

A novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood

I have been looking forward to this time since December: I pre-ordered The Shadows! It finally arrived on my Kobo yesterday morning. I have been hard pressed to put it down since I picked it up!

I even took myself OFFLINE in order to read! Unprecedented!

Trez and iAm, Shadows, an offshoot of the Vampire race, this is ALL about them! And, if I’m not wrong, it’s a lead into the continuation of the series that Ms. Ward announced over on GoodReads that she was going to continue the BDB only with the recruits instead of concentrating on the Brothers.

I am SO stoked!

Now, on to the review!

FIVE (can I give more?) STARS!

Without reservation, fudging or tears although the story is a tear jerker but in the best possible way, for me at least.

Trez, the Anointed One, has found true love and it’s fun and funny, sad and an inescapable part of life.

iAm, being the dutiful brother that he is, stands by his twin’s side through it all even going so far as to do something they both swore they would never do in order to help Trez and Selena.

I’m not going to spoil the book for you because it really is an awesome work of art.

The Brothers all make appearances, as do the shellan’s, Lassiter and there are some new characters as well.

We learn that life is about living and giving. It’s not about the expectations we put on ourselves or others, it’s not about the death that awaits us all at the end of this epic journey called life; it’s about how we live our life from the moment of our first breath to our final breaths.

Life is a journey. That’s the moral of this story, really, truly.

We can choose to live our life bowing to others, scraping by or we can live it with love and laughter and tears. The choice is ours. Trez and Selena, iAm and maichen learn this the hard way. It’s a hard journey but one they needed to take in order to get to the good place where they can look back and say ‘This is what it was all about.’

Well done Ms. Ward. I can’t wait for the next installment.
