Last call for budding poets!

Writing 201: Poetry takes flight Monday — you’ve got a few days left to register.

I thought there might be some poets on my list who would be interested.

Press This vs Reblog

Someone mentioned in a post the other day that self hosted WordPress blogs don’t have the reblog button so I thought I would give you an alternative which works on ALL sites.

I present to you the Press This button!

I just learned that WordPress has been changing things again sigh.

Any way, click Settings on your dashboard: It’s near the bottom.

This will bring up another screen in another tab or widow which looks like: Screenshot 2015-07-01 06.57.18

Click the Writing tab on the above screen which should look something like below.

Press This

Press This is a bookmarklet: a little app that runs in your browser and lets you grab bits of the web.

Use Press This to clip text, images and videos from any web page. Then edit and add more straight from Press This before you save or publish it in a post on your site.

Drag-and-drop the following link to your bookmarks bar or right click it and add it to your favorites for a posting shortcut.

Press This

Press this is at the bottom of the tab and looks like a button. Click on it and drag it up to your bookmarks bar as stated above.

When you click Press This when on a site it will bring up a box which is much bigger than the Reblog box.

Why is it bigger? You have more options. You can write your thoughts on the page as you do with Reblog BUT you can add your tags and categories as you do with a regular post. This works whether it’s a WordPress site, a self hosted site or somewhere else altogether.

The only issue I have with the Press This button is that I can’t schedule when a post goes out; I can only save it as a draft or publish it immediately. I’m a big believer in scheduling my posts because I can make my posts when I have the time and schedule them for when I want them to go out thus not inundating your inboxes with many posts in a day and then having a draught where none go out for weeks.

I don’t Reblog while mobile since it’s from my phone and the buttons are too small to be useful but there is nothing wrong with Reblogging, I just prefer Press This because of the increased options I have there.

Oh, and WordPress? I do NOT like the new posting page or the new settings page! Please, give us the option of the old version of Settings and Posting/Pages! They don’t have as many options as I want and actually use!

Blogging 101: Plug Into a Social Network | The Daily Post

Blogging 101: Plug Into a Social Network | The Daily Post.

I know I’ve mentioned several times before that I cross post EVERYWHERE! Well, that’s not quite true since I don’t belong to Path and I use Linked In for job stuff only so I don’t figure my blogging interests will go over so well there.

You really can find me just about everywhere, even Instagram now.

Why is Social Networking so important?

Think back to your parents day, long before the digital age. If they were professionals like professors, bankers, business owners and a plethora of other careers they networked.

What’s that you say? Networked?

Yup, they networked. They went to parties and luncheons. They talked to people face to face, one on one and in groups! They had an image to project. They wanted to increase their client base and they did it through networking.

That’s EXACTLY what we’re doing when we cross post to Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social networking sites. We’re increasing our exposure so those who are in the market for what we’re selling can find us more easily. They can research what we have and decide if they want to go that step further and contact us for more personal information.

For me cross posting isn’t a do or die situation because my blogs are simply for fun. I can share my knowledge, pictures and thoughts with others who have the same interests. There are those of you out there though who are business people and use digital Social Networking. It could be do or die for you if you don’t use the very simple widgets WordPress has provided for us.

It can’t get much simpler than creating a link between your WordPress account and your social site of choice, really, it is very easy to do.
