I’ve had time to digest what I know about Dead Ever After, the thirteenth and final book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I haven’t read it since I was crazy enough to read the spoilers *sigh*.  There WILL be spoilers below here so if you haven’t read it and don’t want to see the spoilers stop here.

The image is from the net, no infringement intended, I just thought it was cool and I wanted a space filler, lol.

part of her now es

I am upset about the way the series ended though.

She ended up with Sam!  Sam of all people!

All through the series he was forever trying to tell her what to do and who she should have been dating!  They had ONE date in the first book!  That does NOT a relationship make!  Mind you, she and Eric never had ANY!  The one she thought they were going to have ended up being so she could meet a relative she never knew she had instead of a quiet dinner with just the two of them :(‘.

I have read that CH was writing a mystery (I think all her series are mysteries so no surprise there) and ended up with a romance.  She didn’t want the romance part, IMO, so she did everything she could, including butchering the final book, to make it possible for us to actually PREFER the fanfiction to her stories!

That’s right, I said it!  I prefer the fanfic to her books!  There are some wonderful authors writing for the fanfiction world who put a lot of thought and time, and continuity of plotlines, into their stories!

I’m not normally one to nitpick a story, mostly because I read for enjoyment rather than to find errors (I’m not an editor, why would I?).  I’m not the most observant of readers but when I can spot glaringly obvious errors I’m sure others did as well.  Even I picked up on the fact she couldn’t settle on a middle name for Bill.  Should it be Erasmus, as printed in the first book?  No, I think it’ll be Thomas instead.  There were others, many of them, many MANY errors and from what I hear she multiplied those errors in the final book *sobs quietly for a moment*.

I would like to thank her though, lol.  If it weren’t for Charlainne Harris and her vision of a human telepathic waitress from Backwater, Louisiana  in a vampire world I would have never discovered fanfiction!  😀

That’s all, back to your regularly scheduled reading.

About tj6james6

I still write fanfiction and edit for others, but my life has moved on to other things. Now I’m interested in Essential Oils and a healthier lifestyle.

  1. Totally Agree as you can see by my new avatar.lol

  2. I heard the same thing about her not liking Eric. What’s not to like? Tall, absolutely gorgeous, makes sure the girl gets her lovin’ (usually before he gets his), gentle when he needs to be but knows his business no matter what he’s doing.

I can’t figure out where she pointed the imaginary finger at Sam and said “he’s the one she will end up with”.

I don’t think she was jealous for Sam. I think it was because he and Sookie got more press time than she did. Come on! With the Twilight Saga (words dripping with sarcasm) how could she fail to see that vampire/human romances are THE THING?!

When I write I have only a general plot outline. The journey of how they get from the first paragraph to the last is just as much a reveal for me as it is for those who read it. I don’t plot the thing to death and then try to squeeze a plot deviation back into the main story line. I let it take its course since it will probably make for a better story any way.

Even if they couldn’t have had their HEA together surely there was someone else who could give her want she wanted and needed and she could have still kept the character growth she accomplished through the first eight books (9 and after should not have been written IMNSHO!)

I won’t even go on to rant about how, suddenly, there’s a way to remove her telepathy! *trying VERY hard not to rant about it!*

  3. ***APPLAUSE***

Maybe CH’s ego just didn’t realize that sometimes stories take on a life and a plot-course of their own, and that if the writer is SMART, s/he’ll be flexible and competent enough to let the STORY (or the most vocal CHARACTERS in that story) lead the way.

Alas, however, she did not. She and her ginormous ego decided to stick to whatever imaginary course they had (supposedly) chosen at the on-set of this fiasco, and they completely and utterly failed to build up, expand upon, point to, elaborate on, etc., said invisible course throughout the entirety of this doomed series.

It’s been said that she hated Eric, that she didn’t like his character, etc. My personal, unsubstantiated, opinion? She was jealous that he got more love than Sam, the fuzzy-headed missed-his-chance tool of a shifter. BUT THAT’S HOW SHE WROTE HIM – WTF ELSE COULD SHE EXPECT???

    Gaaagh… Yeah. Ugh.

    Thank God for fics.

Give me some sugar!
